April Club Comp Wrap Up

13 Apr 2014 by Paul Stumer

Although the weather and waves were not exactly on our side we managed to have a fun morning of competition for our groms who were all frothin after their week of training with Phil and Michelle Moller and the Bargara Surf School as part of the Vegemite Surf Groms program.

It was also fantastic to welcome some new members to our club, give the new club trailer a thorough test in the rain and have the new club merch available for sale today.

Pete stepped up and put on the apron this week making sure we all had some hot brekky on what was a dreary morning and after a slow start the Pee Wee’s and Honey Girls were the first two heats in the water. Josh Garland surfed with determination for his first comp to grab a 2nd place and although the waves were small it was amazing how many surfers racked up there 10 waves during the 15 minute heats.

Jessica surfed very well getting a 2nd and a 1st in her two heats while Bill put his new Beachbeat stick to good use dominating the U12 and U16 boys with two 1st places. It was exciting to see the Stumer girls move out of the parent assist division. A good indication that the coaching programs and initiatives our club has put in place is having a positive impact.

Our SUP division has continued to gain momentum and 4 surfers headed out for our only Senior heat of the day. Paul grabbed the win just as the wind swung South East and the rain started to kick it up a notch. Fingers crossed it might bring with it some waves for the start of this week.

Thanks to everyone who turned out today to surf and help out. I think we really made the most out of less than perfect conditions. Our weekly draw saw congratulations go to :
